“Asie” by Maurice Ravel (Shéhérazade) – Music Video

Log Line: An audio-visual journey through Maurice Ravel’s song “Asie” from the French song cycle Shéhérazade (1904), exploring the cultures and perceptions of Asian countries, bridging East and West, historical and modern.

Synopsis: In this imaginative music video, a young girl embarks on a fantastical adventure across Asia, exploring the diverse cultures and norms of countries like Persia, India, and China. Inspired by exoticism and orientalism prevalent in the early 1900s, the video delves into how Asian culture is understood through two dimensions: East vs West and historical vs modern.

Director Statement: Crafted by a collaborative team of Asian artists from South East Asia (Singapore) and the Middle East (Iran), our goal is to provide a unique and diverse Asian perspective on this Western classical work. We aim to challenge common stereotypes and generalizations surrounding Asian culture.
