Synopsis: “Watching The Other” is an experimental short documentary set in the urban war zone of Aleppo, Syria. The film revolves around a little boy who bravely attempts to connect wires amidst the wreckage of war. Throughout the movie, various people come into contact with the boy, each offering their unique help and support. The story follows his determined efforts to survive in this war-torn environment.

Director’s Statement: The documentary “Watching The Other” sheds light on a little boy’s struggle to survive in the war-ravaged city of Aleppo. The film aims to answer the question, “Why do people continue to live in a war-torn city?” During my journey to Syria, I realized that media coverage often focuses on warriors, politics, and refugee camp problems, but little is known about the daily lives of those still living in such dangerous circumstances. I decided to explore this untold aspect of life in Syria, the life of an ordinary person who is not involved in the war’s politics or conflicts and who may feel insignificant to the world.

In my quest to understand and show this part of life, I faced language barriers, but watching and observing became my way of connecting with people. “Watching The Other” invites viewers to ponder on life and interpret its meaning uniquely through observation.
